Review: Man of Steel

I rated it 3.5 stars. I wanted to give it 3/5, but... kesian sikit.

What Made Me Hate This Movie?

1. General Zod. Michael Shannon was not natural and convincing enough as the villain. I'm sooo disappointed about this.

2. Amy Adams as Lois Lane looked like she's not Lois Lane.

3. Laurence Fishburne as Perry White. Wasted! Along with his colleagues.

4. The flashbacks didn't work for me. Just leave it to Arrow series.

5. The movie's pace was pretty much like Battleship. Boring storyline but extravaganza action scenes.

6. The fighting scenes at some points were annoying. Fight, spaceship come and go, fight, spaceship come and go, fight....

7. Just like that Clark first got his costume?

8. Clark Kent and Lois Lane fell in love so easily. Oh come on...

9. Zack Snyder's new cinematography style: shaky cam + zoom in and out many times = so unoriginal. Stick to slow-mo, Zack!

10. Just an average DC Universe flick. Not convincing enough to be a kick-start for a Justice League movie. Everything was rushed in this.

Some positive things about Man of Steel:

1. Henry Cavill is perfect as the new Superman/Clark Kent. Keep him for next sequels!

2. Diane Lane, Russel Crowe & Kevin Costner were great as supporting role. The veterans won.

3. Some fights between Supes and Zod's army kicked ass!

4. Krypton world was beautiful.

5. That's all.

Review: KIL

High notes:

1. Good casting. Overall, the cast were awesome! Redza Minhat and Cristina Suzanne looked natural on their part. Supporting characters like the fruit auntie, the boss, Johan Iskandar and others gave some memorable moments and lines too.

2. Good sub-plot on Johan Iskandar's marriage struggle and his stand on making films. This kind of deep and soft thought-provoking contents should be constantly discussed in future local movies. Refreshing.

3. Bold premise/main storyline on suicide.

4. Standout soundtracks! Guba, Monoloque, Bo and others rock!

5. That cameo by our queen of rock with a fat cat.

6. Juliana Evans wearing school uniform.

Low notes:

1. The way the story is told or maybe the editing could be better. For example, one scene should be told before/after another scene (i.e. the fruit auntie plot's revelation should be at the end).

2. Obvious use of 500 Days of Summer template? Well, maybe it's just me. It's alright but kinda felt awkward when it came to the lift and chalked wall scenes.

3. Too grim and emo at some points in the movie it bothered me.

4. Predictable ending, no? Especially the whole thing about the company.

5. Itu je Juliana Evans? ceh.

***
Bravo to this film. Need more of this in local movie scene (and its take on designing promotional posters).

I rated it 3.5/5 stars.

The Stone

Haris, 20 years old, was mute but not in the dreamworld.
Haris met a girl named Diana in his dream and they fell in love.
They always met each other in 'shared' dreams but never in real life.
In those dreams, Haris always sang one same love song that Diana really liked.
In dreamworld, Haris is a singer Diana adored so much.

One (dream)night, they planned to meet in real life.
They gave to each other own address but Haris tended to forget
about it once he woke up from sleep.
(a normal thing for everyone after dreaming.)
So Diana gave him some signs that would lead him to her home
and Haris needed to remember and seek them.
Since that dream, Haris never dreamed of Diana again.

Haris started to search for the signs, especially a big stone which
always appearred in most of their 'shared' dreams.
Haris finally found the stone.
It led him to Diana's house not far away.

There, he met a lady but she's not Diana.
Her name is Sarah.
Sarah told Haris that Diana had died years ago.
Diana was 80 when she died.
Sarah was Diana's caretaker and now staying at that house originally belonged to Diana.
Sarah also said that Diana was blind and deaf,
and never got married.

When Haris told Sarah his name, she recalled something.
Sarah said Diana constantly told her same stories about her
meeting a boy named Haris in her dreams back when she was young.
And that boy is the only boy she'd seen and fell in love with,
in her entire life.
But Sarah didn't believe that Haris is the same person as told by Diana.
Haris, to convince her it was him, hummed the same song
he always sang to Diana in the shared dreams.
Sarah was shocked and she cried.
It's the same tune Diana kept humming on her dying bed.

Haris sadly left the house.

One fated (dream)day, Haris met Diana again.
And this time for forever.

In dreamworld, Haris, a mute, would have a smooth beautiful voice.
In dreamworld, Diana, a deaf, would listen to Haris' singing all day
and never failed to be amazed by it.
In dreamworld, Diana, a blind, would see a beautiful world for 'real'.
In dreamworld, everything is possible
...and everything is real.

"And that's why I love to sleep in class, Cikgu.
I would achieve an A+ in my dream."
The entire class laughed.
Cikgu Sarah just smiled.
It reminds her of something.

I need to tell you something.

I can’t open Facebook or Twitter on my office’s PC. I don’t have a phone or annoying tablet to surf the Internet. And these works at my workplace are killing me. I really need a break before walking back on purpose to the works and allowing them to consume me. Like walking towards zombies with a hope that they’ll dance Thriller with you. And that ‘break’ means I need to do something else. Something that sets me free for a while. This is why I’m writing this blog post. Luckily, blogger.com is accessible here.

It’s three weeks already I’m here at Alor Gajah, Melaka. But I still feel like a tourist instead of a local. Still adapting. Like I used to. I’ve experienced lives in Ipoh, Batu Gajah, Bota, Petaling Jaya, Shah Alam and Kuala Lumpur (and Leuven, Belgium. technically). So, yeah. I believe I can survive this one. Another Gajah. Alor Gajah. What’s next? Telur Gajah?

I rented a house at Masjid Tanah, quite far from my workplace. A terrace house with 3 rooms. Alone. RM200 a month. But with billions of ants. There’s nothing in my house except for a toto,  pillows and my baggages. Oh, I brought my guitar along from KL but I don’t really play it. Works continually consumed me until 8pm at least every day. My house is quite far from my workplace, did I mention that before? K. It’s about 30-minutes drive from one to another. So I leave my house early for work at around 6.20am. Compared to my life months ago, wow! I am suddenly a morning person. I am suddenly a man with a real job. I am not a jobless dude who often goes to cinema watching free movie screenings anymore. Freeloaders… Holy shit! There’s no cinema in Alor Gajah. But there’s always Torrent. Holy shit! The broadband signal is weak at my house area. And holy shit! The IT team at my workplace blocked Torrent.

So this is why I’m writing this blog post.

Ermm…

No. Not really. I have another thing to share. The most important one. A significant reason which got me started writing this post. Not only that I just need a brief break from these paper-works but… this one is THE one I need to tell you;

My name is Adam. And I’m going to have my own business cards. Fuck yeah!

Okay that’s all. Thanks.

(Cue American Psycho’s business card scene)

p.s. Don't 'k' me. You 'k' me, I 'f' you.
