Urbanscapes 2013 - Day 2's Photos and Review

Thank you so much, Urbanscapes. It was a great weekend spent on enjoying some awesome live music. I personally adore Efterklang's set. They were amazing and engaging! Plus, I think Upfront Stage was the best stage throughout the festival. Great sound system there.

I also discovered new love in Damn Dirty Apes (what a shame I only first time heard of their music at this Urbanscapes but thanks for that!), Bihzhu and a new band, Da Vagabonds. Kyoto Protokol were getting better and better. The headliners, Tegan and Sara & Franz Ferdinand ended each night perfectly.

Urbanscapes 2014, come on!

Oppo-Fiction #0

The year is 2035.
Songs have no longer lyrics in them.
The Government has banned music with lyrics.
For these lyrics might contain anti-government message.
All kinds of art are either restricted or illegal per se.
Besides, no more poetry.
No more indie movies or verbal plays.
No more fictional books.
Except for all these to be sanctioned thoroughly by the Government.
Bullshit.

Art and literature are dead.
And a revolution is imminent.
It is badly needed to revitalize hope.
The Government has no Opposition in this era.
It is also 'banned'.
So a lot of left-wing organizations were secretly initiated.
Consisting  poets, musicians, movie-makers and what's left of the kind.
But lately a lot of the groups got caught by the Government.
They got life-imprisoned and some were executed.
'Art is a treason to our country.'
Why?
'Because art may lead to anti-government movements.'
These so-called final and definite reasonings drive me crazy.

The year is 2035.
We, citizens, have to be more careful in future.
Ironically, creativity is highly needed for survival.
And we need to get more creative to end this madness.

My name is Amani.
I am part of this revolutionary movement.
I pledge to give my all to save my country.

But the thing is, I'm the wife of the Prime Minister.

The Cribs Live @ The Bee, KL 2013

 The Cribs

An Upfront show at The Bee, Publika, KL last Monday. The opening act, Free Deserters, was surprisingly good. Kick-started the Brit Rock mood that night.

Free Deserters

After that, it was The Cribs! They started their set with a bang but, slowly towards the end, they kinda lost it. Anyway, when they played Mirror Kissers & Men's Needs, I forgot the world for two songs. It was an amazing moment to remember.

Thank you, The Bee, for keep bringing this type of acts. We need more like these in future. Justin Timberlake, next please. hahaha~

Urbanscapes Satellite Show: Mew & Explosions in the Sky @ KL 2013

It has started! Series of Urbanscapes/Upfront concerts throughout what's left of 2013. And it began with Urbanscapes Satellite Show #1 at KL Live last 31st October with Mew & Explosions in the Sky rocking the night.

Honestly, I solely came for Mew knowing this band since Spider-Man 2 soundtracks album (I know right? what a slight shame...) so I really really hoped they'd play She Spider. And they did! They sounded wonderful live. It is more of an experience for my ears and mind to indulge in. Dreamy. Added with an awesome lighting. It's a perfect set accompanied by a colorful crowd.

And then, it was Explosions in the Sky's turn to perform... I left early. Ngantuk. Haha.

But, it's a perfect start for the big Urbanscapes event plus the Upfront gig series. Next are The Cribs, the Big Weekend, Metric AND Foals in 2014. Nice job, Urbanscapes. You've stepped up your game.
