Movie Review: The Tree Of Life

The Tree Of Life is not for everyone. I found it hard to understand or like it for the first hour. It's kinda like that colorful sequence in A Space Odyssey: 2001 but this time it ran an hour long. Endure it patiently or you might sleep or stop watching. But of course, if you're looking for visual treatment, you'll be fine.

Once the movie moved on to the scene of little Sean Penn was born, I sighed a relief. This is the part that moved the movie, in my opinion. It portrayed Brad Pitt's family, beautifully; emotions and all that. Jessica Chastain as Brad's wife and mother of the three children was so amazing. Her angelic face and charisma throughout the movie were believable and... unbelievable! The main story is about the eldest son's relationship with his father and how he lived through his adolescence years.

All in all, it's the balance of visual stuffs and the story itself. Yes i found it hard to understand at first but slowly, it turned out to be a beautiful watch. Be it for the eyes or movie goers. But not for the impatient ones.

3.5/5 stars

Movie Reviews: Everything Must Go & Midnight In Paris

It's an emo melo-drama about Will Ferrell's character who lost his job and on the verge of divorce all happened in a day. I found it quite interesting to see Will Ferrell could pull a non-comedic performance like in this. Swept away Ben Stiller (Greenberg) and Adam Sandler (Reign Over Me). Lots of business stuffs you can learn, too. 4/5 stars!

It's about Gil (Owen Wilson) visiting Paris with fiancee (Rachel McAdams) to find inspiration on his new novel. Then, crazy things happened to him at midnight. The movie was quite moving and entertaining. This is where you can find Carla Bruni, Pablo Picasso, T.S. Elliot, Michael Sheen, Loki, Marion Cotillard, F. Scott Fitzgerald, rhinos etc. all in one movie. And the ending was similar to 500 Days of Summer's. Tres Bien! 4/5 stars

Inception & Transformers/Terminators Fake Trailer

Made both mashed up trailers because I'm bored. Enjoy=) Feel free to comment.

Review: Warrior

This is one movie you should watch, guys! MUST WATCH!!!

This is not a typical sports movie, where you know from the very start that the good guys/heroes always won the game in the end. But Warrior had two protagonists, Brendan and Tommy. Both were brothers and each of them got their own motive to win the mixed martial arts tournament. Both of them got an equal exposure and story, and it made it hard for you to be longing for only one of them.

The first half of the movie was heavy of family drama. But at the same time, it built up a perfect and strong foundation for the second half; the tournament and all those fighting and ass-kicking. So, everything is balanced here.

K.O, biatch!

The father of the two brothers, played by Nick Nolte, was my favorite character. He shown terrific and believable emotions when facing his trouble with his boys. I bet he will get a nomination for Best Supporting Role in any award. I am sure of that! Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton, on the other hand, were absolutely brilliant! Tom Hardy keeps getting better (cannot wait for him in The Dark Knight Rises!) and Joel has earned his breakthrough he really deserves.

Daddy's looking for redemption.

Finally, the tournament at the end of the movie has left me breathless. Really! You should watch it in cinema for a better impact. Warrior is surely one of the best movies I've ever watched. Erm... the best of this year? YES!!! So far.

5/5 stars.

Bane vs physics teacher.

Themed Playlist: Drive

Play these 6 songs accordingly and you have a set of songs that could mess with your peace or menyemakkan lagi otak anda yang bercelaru. Or fit in perfectly when you speed-drive on the highway in the middle of the night. Enjoy=)

1. Kavinsky - Nightcall

This song was played during Drive's intro credit. Man, it was perfect! It set up the mood for the entire movie. Retro-style!

2. CSS - Art Bitch

These Brazilians' work will truly screw your head up.

3. Freeland - Wish I Was Here

Time for a breakdown. This might ease your otak celaru. A bit.

4. Psychic Babble - Five Fold Kiss (Don't Sleep)

Psychic Babble is Circa Survive's guitarist's side project. That explains the familiar sounds of CS.

5. Digitalism - Miami Showdown

The title itself describes the entire song.

6. Kings Of Leon - The End

This is the first song from their latest album but I put it in the end of this playlist as meant to be so, IMO. Driving blues listening to this.

Fasten your seat-belt first, mofos!

Welcome

I decided to blog again. The hell...

I blogged before about my life and my views on something, politics bla bla bla. But now I feel tired to post about that stuffs.

So, I dedicate this blog to all music listeners and movie-goers. This blog is just about music and movies (both are my life.) They are the ones that are keeping me sane and alive and kickin'. So why not I keep sharing these interests with all of you, like I did before. Will share with you new songs, bands, music videos, movie posters etc. And would review some new movies I've watched or album/CD. from time to time. And other shits...

Finally, I would like to announce that I'd changed the name of this blog from MyWasteland (now I'm older enough to realize it's such a kiddy blog name) to...

...DRIVE! Well, that's the movie which influenced me to blog again. Such a great movie (ryan Gosling, dude!) And it got cool soundtracks, 80s like, that you should hear sometimes. I will post about it later=)

Selamat Hari Malaysia =)
